To start with, I was tasked to review the MVP developed in PHP. The exercise helped me uncover the navigation issues, number of clicks required to complete a single small task. The employers were not able to see the employee or contractor status with details and take action on it right away. This could have reduced number of clicks and navigation issue. To help them analyze the employee status at a glance, there was a need for a better dashboard.
But this wasn't as easy. I decided to dive deep into the real pain points and understand the entire hiring workflow.
In parallel to screen review, to understand the problem premise and how does the hiring compliance works, I started interviewing the product manager and owner, recruitment team which were the internal system users.
There are four personas using this system. Each one have their own workflow with one goal in mind to have transparency in the compliance documents and status.
For MVP, we decided to focus on post hiring compliance process - starting with employee's onboarding process once they are hired till the client is onboarded. This establishes a transparent compliant relationship between the employee - vendor - client.
System workflows include: onboarding process, setting up company profile, adding employee workspace, dashboard, and sharing compliance reportsÂ
Reviewing MVP screens, stakeholder interview data, workflow discussions and persona understanding pointed out to one concept of managing tasks and required status visibility all the time. What could be a better option than a Kanban board to allow managing tasks and workflows. I had found the inspiration for the application dashboard for Employer or a Vendor persona. I created almost 7 design concepts based on this idea. Displaying a few here:

After pitching all seven concepts, we all decided to move forward with concept#4 as it provided better filter and search capability.Â
Now it was time to find out which design system would the feasibility of the flow decided to work with Material Design as it was well documented at that time, easily customizable and their component library was readily available. The color palette was based on the logo and the MVP application so as to reduce the overwork and finish the MVP with the new workflow designs.

To understand what our different personas; Employee and Employer want to see when they visit product website, I conducted a card sorting activity with two internal users. That resulted in fair understanding of high level menu and how home page needs to be structured.
